Shahvar

. I went to Bandar Abbas a city in south of Iran, last week and met the village potters themselves. It was really fantastic! There are more than 4 villages in Hormozgan Province in which, village potters are involved in pottery. (Shahvar-Hakami-Gour band- Lashtaghan- Bastak). From among the 4 pottery villages in Hormozgan province, I could visit only 2 villages (Shahvar and Hakamy) during my short journey.
Few potters in these villages are making pottery in very old traditional style. I had interview with several village potters.

In Shahvar village, there is just one man who is making pots with a ground wheel. The wheel is similar to a big plate with a diameter about 45cm.This plate is made from row clay and rounds on a sharp wood of about 10cm. It weights about 50Kg. He makes just upper part of jug (neck) with ground wheel and the belly is made by pinching style. He makes just one form of jug, which is named “Jahleh” in Shahvar. There is a traditional kiln with fuels of wood and branch of palms. He doesn’t use any color for ornamentation. Decoration is just carving with 4 or 5 needle. Motifs are fish, moon and butterfly on upper part of jug.
